How do you choose what to put in a kid’s room? We are going to look at a few creative ways to determine décor and accoutrement for kid’s rooms.
A six year old has little in common with a nine year old. Most of the toys and decorations for a youngster of six are discovery type such as – stuffed animals and brightly colored toys that require a lot of imagination. While a nine year old will more than likely gravitate to something they can relate to, like cars and trucks or dolls. Their decorations generally are lamps of their favorite character from some cartoon that they like and posters of a super hero. As they grow older the little toys start to get replaced with bigger more expensive toys like computers and stereos and the walls become decorated with posters of their current musical interest or favorite actor.
What does your child like? If your son or daughter is into sports you could paint their room with the colors of their favorite team. Sometimes kids are into outdoor pursuits like hunting or fishing. You could try your hand at decorating the room to look like their favorite hunting or fishing spot. Depending on your talent you could paint a mural and if you are not that talented, you could hang up some old equipment or buy great children posters.
Depending on the size of the room, it is always fun to decorate with bedroom furniture sets. It is not necessary to spend a lot of money on pieces of furniture. Let’s say we stick with the sports theme, instead of putting in a chest of drawers for the clothes why not try a gym locker. You can locate one by going to the school district where you live. Find out where they put the old lockers that have been removed. The schools generally just throw them away and with a little paint and maybe a few pings with a hammer you could have an authentic locker serving as a dresser.
By using your imagination and some materials from around the house, you can create a customized space for your kid. You will be able to save some money by doing it yourself.
